at least on me….

The SIHH Geneva and Basel World is over and all the brands have had their yearly presentations. Every brand presented range of new models at the show and so was Rolex, in their always over crowded booth, or shall we call it a tempel?RolexperPetualsLast year Rolex introduced these three stunning Oyster perpetual models in 36mm, the White Grape, Red Grape and Steel. grey. Especially that last one with the grey dial, looked very slick with its smooth bezel and Oyster bracelet, that it reminded me immediately a little bit of the legendary Milgauss from the past, that also had that smooth discreet look. It was just a pity that the new Rolex models were sized at 36mm, what most men find on the small side, to be masculine enough. Rolex knows their market well and had it probably all planned, to launch a new larger version in 39mm at this years Basel World!OYSTER PERPETUAL 39This new Oyster perpetual 39 also comes with a smooth bezel and Oyster bracelet and features the automatic Caliber 3132 movement, that provides the famous Rolex COSC-certified chronometer performance. The power reserve is a hefty 48 hours and the crystal is scratch-resistant sapphire. The dial is made in a dark rhodium, sunray finish, blue hour transfer hour markers, bâton appliques in 18 ct white gold, 18 ct white gold appliques with phosphorescent material at 3, 6 and 9 o’clock and the hands are in 18 ct white gold with phosphorescent material.OYSTER PERPETUAL 39OYSTER PERPETUAL 39The Rolex Milgauss, that I mentioned earlier, was introduced around 1956 and is a watch that never shared the popularity, of for instance the Submariner, but became actually highly sought after, when the production stopped and the new contemporary model was introduced. The updated design with the new design of the zig zag hand never appealed to me; I just could not warm up for this creation. This new 39mm Oyster perpetual that will be on the market, this Summer, could however be a superb alternative for those who fancy the vintage Milgauss, but do not want to pay a hefty CHF18000K,  for a vintage model, since that’s what these babies do these days.

The new Oyster Perpetual 39 is, to me, the ultimate Rolex for those seeking a more discreet Rolex, as a daily wearer, to match a business outfit as well as a more sporty combination.
