About half a year ago, when I was dreaming away, in my always on going fantasies about Cartier’s collection of watches, I realised that 2018 would be the 40th. anniversary of the Santos, I obviously expected to see a new version of the model at the SIHH in Geneva; it belonged after all always to one of the most important watches in Cartier’s history. But what absolutely did not come up in my wildest dreams, was the launch of something high end, like a skeleton caliber, now in combination with Cartier’s first steel watch; the ‘Santos de Cartier’, that was launched in 1978. – (and in 1987 re-vised and re-named to Santos Galbée)In this article I will compare the new Santos Skelette, now and then, to the Santos Dumont Skelette from 2010, that I am wearing here, since these two models are from the same family, have a lot in common and share after all, that same high end caliber.
