Many watch collectors, dealers and journalists will be heading to Hong Kong this month, when ‘Watches & Wonders’ 2015 will be the place for the Richemont brands (and Richard Mille) to show the world their collection and probably some nouveautés. ‘Watches & Wonders’ will be open from September 30th. – October 3rd. Of course Cartier will present its very new and hottest model the Clé de Cartier collection, a series that was just enriched with a version in steel with rosé gold. But that’s not all. Especially for the ‘Watches & Wonders’ exposition, Cartier will introduce a Flying Tourbillon, in a 35mm Clé de Cartier, white gold case, set with 478 brilliant-cut diamonds totalling 3,56 carats. The watch is powered with the well know, in 2007 introduced, mechanical 9452MC caliber.
The way Cartier sets diamonds is always ‘crème de la crème’; this years Ballon Bleu ‘Vibrating Diamond’ that was presented at the SIHH, is a prime example of their expertise. Looking at this Clé de Cartier and its very special crown, it is again a joy to see how the diamonds follow the line of the quite bizar rectangle crown.I’ve not seen the watch in the flesh yet, but I think it is a stunning piece, that is being introduced in the perfect region. Apart from the diamond setting, I find this dial the best ‘Clé de Cartier’ dial so far, very strong, very powerful and so cool to see how this movement is housed, in such a small case. I sure hope that we will see more versions at the SIHH 2016, also without diamonds. The 40mm Clé de Cartier for instance, is an excellent gents watch and combined with this caliber, it would be a real winner and discreet enough to wear during business meetings. This new ‘Clé de Cartier’ Flying tourbillion proves that we can expect more developments in Fine Watch Making, since the new case shows to be ideal for complications.
